Bipolar Disorder Predictive Model: A Study to Analyze and Predict Emotional Change Using Physiological Signals

Advisor: Arshia Khan. 1 computer file (PDF); viii, 95 pages.Bipolar disorder, a chronic mental illness, most common among people of ages 18 years and older, affects over 2.6 percent of the United States population alone. Although this illness cannot be cured, it can be managed by continuous tracking and monitoring. Hence, if a manic or depressive episode can be identified or predicted in its early stages, severe damage can be minimized, if not prevented. This thesis proposes the design of an objective sensor based system that is based on physiological predictors for the continuous and autonomous monitoring of bipolar patients. This system consists of a pulse rate sensor to record heart rate, and an electrodermal activity sensor to trace the emotional and cognitive state changes and does not rely completely on self-assessment or reporting. Furthermore, it investigates how psychological changes affect physiological responses, such as Heart rate variability (HRV) and Electrodermal activity (EDA). We conducted a study with 50 healthy participants, where each participant was subjected to a certain degree of image and audio induced emotion. Baseline and the emotional stimuli data was collected. Time- domain and non-linear analysis of HRV was then performed on the collected HRV data. In addition, EDA data analysis was performed by decomposing it into tonic and phasic components. We investigated the ability of HRV and EDA to identify the activity of the au- tonomic nervous system in response to emotional stimuli. Moreover, the extracted features from the data were then used to build machine learning models to predict the given psychological change in response to the emotional stimuli. Our results showed that these combination of HRV and EDA features from the study we conducted yielded an average accuracy of up to 73% with Support vector machine, and 68.3% with Discriminant analysis for predicting emotional change in healthy individuals

The data of this research is the news entitled “DKI Mengklaim Perluasan Ancol untuk Publik” published in TEMPO Newspaper, Monday July 6, 2020. From the analysis, this news shows support for the reclamation policy of the Ancol area of the DKI Jakarta Government. Analisis Wacana Kritis Model Norman Fairclough atas Cerita Fiksi “The Dragon In The Hall” Karya Sarah Snashall pada Buku Peserta Didik Kelas 1 Sekolah Dasar SPK

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis sejauh mana teks, konteks dan sosial budaya cerita fiksi The Dragon in The Hall dalam buku ajar untuk kelas 1 Sekolah Dasar SPK dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan metode analisis wacana kritis model Norman Fairclough dengan enam tahap prosedur penelitian yaitu (1) Membaca teks dengan seksama, (2) Mengumpulkan informasi, (3) Mendeskripsikan isi teks, (4) Menginterpretasi, (5) Mencari penjelasan atas hasil pemahaman, (6) Meringkas hasil analisis dan membuat rekomendasi. Subjek penelitian adalah teks fiksi “The Dragon in The Hall” yang terdapat pada buku pelajaran peserta didik kelas 1 Sekolah Dasar. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa 1) Teks dibuat sederhana dengan melakukan repetisi kosakata dengan jumlah kata yang dipelajari tidak lebih dari 100 kata, 2) Konteks cerita mendorong pembaca untuk senantiasa berimajinasi sebagai karakter utama, dan 3) Sejumlah temuan sosial budaya ditemukan dalam teks berupa kecenderungan ketakutan umum pada anak dan dalam ilustrasi berupa simbol-simbol yang merepresentasi kehidupan negara Inggris

KOGNISI SOSIAL DALAM LIRIK MARS KOTA DEPOK:ANALISIS WACANA KRITIS MODEL TEUN VAN DIJK

Artikel ini bertujuan menjelaskan kognisi sosial dalam lirik mars Kota Depok yang berjudul Depok Sejahtera berisi kognisi sosial yang terkandung di dalamnya. Analisis wacana kritis adalah jenis penelitian analitik wacana yang mempelajari bagaimana cara penyalahgunaan, dominasi, dan ketidaksetaraan kekuatan sosial yang diberlakukan, direproduksi, dan ditentang oleh teks dan pembicaraan dalam konteks sosial dan politik. Analisis wacana kritis mengambil posisi secara eksplisit serta ingin memahami, mengekspos, dan juga melawan ketidaksetaraan sosial.Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui analisis wacana kritis model Van Dijk. Teknik pengumpilan data melakukan observasi teks atau document research yaitu teks berupa data primer sebagai sasaran utama dalam menganalisis sedangkan data sekunder diperlukan untuk mempertajam analisis data primer sekaligus data tersebut dijadikan sebagai bahan pelengkap atau perbandingan. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian kulaittatif yang dilakukan secara alamiah, sehingga mendapatkan hasil yang berupa deskripsi secara alamiah. Rancangan penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dari analisis wacana kritis model Teun Van Dijk dari mars Kota Depok dengan judul Depok Sejahtera. Hasil penelitian dari analisis lirik mars Kota Depok menunjukkkan bahwa ada terdapat kognisi sosial yang disampaikan melalui lirk mars tersebut. Lirik mars Depok Sejahtera memiliki pesan yang disampaikan untuk masyarakat Kota Depok. Pesan yang disampaikan sangat menyentuh ranah kehidupan masyarakat di Kota Depok.Kata Kunci: wacana kritis, Van Dijk, kognisi sosial

Posisi Perempuan dalam Berita Kekerasan Seksual Merdeka.com: Perspektif Sara Mills

Peristiwa kekerasan seksual semakin marak terjadi di masyarakat belakangan ini khususnya pada para perempuan. Berita kekerasan seksual terhadap perempuan dipublikasikan di berbagai media online tanah air. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menggambarkan posisi perempuan di dalam teks berita online merdeka.com pada pemberitaan kasus-kasus kekerasan terhadap perempuan yang diambil dari dua sisi sudut pandang penulis, yaitu pelaku dan korban. Metode penelitian yang diterapkan adalah metode Analisis Wacana Kritis berdasarkan perspektif Sara Mills. Terdapat empat teks berita kekerasan seksual terhadap perempuan, yang dimuat dalam merdeka.com, dipilih sebagai sumber data primer untuk dianalis menggunakan perspektif Sara Mills. Keempat teks berita ini belum pernah dianalisis oleh para peneliti sebelumnya. Dari hasil analisis, secara keseluruhan keempat teks berita kekerasan seksual pada merdeka.com menggambarkan perempuan sebagai objek yang cenderung diberi label negatif dalam kata-kata oleh penulis. Hanya satu diantaranya yang masih memberikan peluang bagi perempuan untuk menampilkan kehadiran dirinya dalam wacana sebagai bentuk perlawanan atau gerakan feminisme meskipun penyampaiannya melalui ibu atau pihak keluarga si perempuan. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa keempat teks tersebut mengandung bias gender dalam penggambaran posisi perempuan sebagai korban kekerasan seksual

RELASI KUASA PADA TOPONIMI NAMA KOTA BEKASI, PROVINSI JAWA BARAT: ANALISIS WACANA KRITIS MODEL RUTH WODAK

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis secara mendalam dan kritis menggunakan model Ruth Wodak tentang Relasi Kuasa pada Toponimi Kota Bekasi dalam Buku Sejarah Bekasi (Sejak Peradaban Buni Ampe Wayah Gini), karya Endra Kusnawan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif yang menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Objek penelitian ini mencakup naskah Buku Sejarah Bekasi (Sejak Peradaban Buni Ampe Wayah Gini), karya Endra Kusnawan Bab Toponimi Bekasi. Berdasarkan analisis data, penulis dapat menyimpulkan: Naskah buku Sejarah Bekasi (Sejak Peradaban Buni Ampe Wayah Gini) karya Endra Kusnawan memenuhi unsur spesifikasi topik yang baik; strategi diskursif, strategi rekrutmen, strategi kredibilitas, strategi pendelegasian, strategi dramatisasi, strategi kontroversial; dan relasi kuasa makna-makna kebahasaan. PENGGAMBARAN KEKERASAN DALAM RUMAH TANGGA (KDRT) PADA SURAT KABAR DARING: ANALISIS WACANA KRITIS MODEL SARAH MILLS

Kekerasan dalam rumah tangga (KDRT) menjadi salah satu isu hangat pada surat kabar online. Korban KDRT sebagian besar adalah kaum perempuan, namun ada kemungkinan kaum pria juga bisa mengalaminya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: 1) posisi subjek-objek dalam dua artikel berita yang diterbitkan oleh detik.com dengan topik KDRT; 2) posisi penulis-pembaca dalam dua artikel berita yang dimuat detik.com dengan topik KDRT. Peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian adalah kutipan mengenai analisis wacana kritis model Sara Mills. Sumber data penelitian ini yaitu artikel berita detik.com yaitu berita mengenai Lesti Kejora Mengalami Kekerasan Dalam Rumah Tangga Berulang Kali yang terbit pada Sabtu, 8 Oktober 2022; dan Pria Arab Siram Istri pakai Air Keras Dijerat Pasal Pembunuhan Berencana diterbitkan pada Senin, 22 November 2022. Teknik pengumpulan menggunakan Teknik baca dan catat yaitu peneliti membaca artikel yang digunakan dalam penelitian dan mencatat hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan analisis wacana kritis model Sara Mills. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu 1) membaca artikel berita dengan seksama; 2) mengidentifikasi posisi subjek-objek; 3) mengidentifikasi posisi penulis-pembaca; 4) menghubungkan data yang ditemukan dengan menggunakan analisis wacana kritis Model Sara Mills tentang penggambaran perempuan dalam topik KDRT; 5) menarik kesimpulan dari analisis. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa perempuan digambarka sebagai korban KDRT. Subjek pemberitaan cenderung merasionalisasi KDRT dengan menyalahkan korban dalam hal ini perempuan. Para komentator juga memiliki perspektif yang berbeda. Sisi pertama mendukung korban. Pihak kedua mencoba menyalahkan korban dengan tuduhan yang tidak terbukti.Kata kunci: KDRT, Wacana Kritis, Sarah Mill

ANALISIS KRITIS NORMAN FAIRCLOUH PADA BERITA PERNIKAHAN SIRI ARTIS LESTI KEJORA DENGAN RIZKY BILLAR

This study discussed the news in several online media news regarding the unregistered marriage between the artist couple Lesti Kejora and Rizky Billar. The purpose of this study was to determine the critical analysis of Norman Fairclouh on the Marriage News of Artist Siri Lesti Kejora with Rizky Billar. The study used Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis to analyze articles in five online news stories. The object of this research was the news headlines about the marriage of Rizky Billar and Lesti Kejora on five online news websites, namely Sosok.id.com, tribunnew.com, detik.com, Kompas.com, and tabloidbintang.com. The research method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique started from looking for similar stories in several online news stories. The data analysis technique in this research was to analyze similar news, and then the news is analyzed for the pros or cons of reporting one by one. The analysis of the five news articles found that the ideological, cultural, and legal aspects were present through the views of the internet community (netizens) on the procedures and continuity of unregistered marriage activities. The conclusion is the analysis of the five news reports found that news coverage was not always objective but always had the news writer's point of view. Aspects of culture, ideology and law are aspects that become the theme of the news

The Representation of Women in Pendhoza's Bojoku Galak's Song through Sara Mills's Critical Discourse Analysis Model

This study considers the representation of women in the lyrics of a popular dangdut song called Bojoku Galak. The study focuses on songs as a poetic form, and this song was selected owning to its popularity in Indonesia. The study uses a qualitative approach with the Sara Mills critical discourse analysis (CDA) model. Research data in the form of vocabulary, phrases, or sentences showing the image of women were taken from in the lyrics. The results showed that the representation of women can be seen from the position of subject-object, and writer-reader. The song represents male actors as subjects and women as objects to be blamed and depicted as ferocious, accusatory, selfish, and uncaring. This contradictions the established representation of women in Indonesian society, which represents women using images of patience, obedience, meek and soft. The Multifaceted Perspectives of The Domestic Violence Case of Rizky Billar Towards Lesti Kejora: Sara Mills Critical Discourse Analysis

This paper discusses the discourse on domestic violence that befell Lesti Kejora by her husband, Rizky Billar, in the online media coverage tempo.com on 13 October 2022. This writing aims to describe feminism in the domestic violence coverage of Rizky Billar against Lesti Kejora using Sara Mills’ critical discourse analysis (CDA). The research method used is descriptive qualitative, utilizing the data analysis technique of Sara Mills’ critical discourse analysis, which emphasizes the position of the subject-object, its consequences, and the position of the reader-writer. From the analysis results, it is known that ideological and legal aspects are present through the views of legal experts on domestic violence. The discourse in the object of this research is news that shows the feminist movement in favor of women led by women's rights legal experts. However, the discourse writers tend to side with Billar, who is most likely to be released from custody. At first glance, Lesti's discourse indicates as if she was not a victim is indirectly something that marginalizes women. The author reconstructs facts into a discourse adapted to the intent and purpose. Therefore, the position of the subject-object may differ from the actor in another context
